Volunteers from the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Sleman burial team bury the body of a woman who died from COVID-19 during a funeral service at a cemetery on August 12, 2021 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Indonesia has recorded over 100,000 deaths from Covid-19, as the country continues to struggle with a huge wave of infections driven by the delta variant. Burial teams are working round the clock in many parts of the country, not only assisting with burying the dead, but also educating the public on best practices when dealing with those who have lost their lives to the disease.
Ulet Ifansasti is a freelance photojournalist and documentary photographer, with interest in social, environmental and cultural issues. He is born in Papua and currently base in Yogyakarta-Indonesia. Ulet joined international photo agency Getty Images in 2008 and has been a regular contributor and stringer since. As a freelance photographer Ulet covers a variety of assignments for editorial and commercial clients and remains committed to exploring personal projects. In 2014 and 2015 he was selected as one of photographer of the year by The Guardian.
